Federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (2024–2032)
Homeowners may qualify for a 30% tax credit, up to $1,200 annually, for adding eligible insulation products under the Inflation Reduction Act. This includes insulation for attics, walls, floors, crawl spaces, and basements. To qualify, materials must meet Energy Star® standards and be installed in your primary residence.
State and Local Rebates
In addition to federal tax credits, many utility companies and state programs offer instant rebates, cash-back offers, or free energy audits when you upgrade your insulation. These programs vary by location, but you could save hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars on installation costs.
How to Claim Your Credit
-
Save all receipts and product labels from your insulation purchase.
-
Ensure the work is done by a licensed professional (if required by your local rebate program).
-
Fill out IRS Form 5695 when you file your tax return.
